LFC Competitive FAQ's

Frequently Asked Tryout/Competitive Program Questions.

1. Is there a charge to register for tryouts?

No, unlike some other clubs, LFC tryouts are free of charge.

2.  I see multiple dates listed for my player’s age group.  How do I know which day I am supposed to attend?

While we recommend attending 2 or 3 of the tryout times, a player is only required to attend once to be considered for a team.   Attending multiple evenings allows players to have a more thorough evaluation by our coaches.

3. How many teams are there in an age group?  Will all players who attend tryouts be placed on an LFC team, or are players cut?

LFC will form multiple teams at an age group if there are players who are at the appropriate skill level.  There are times when our staff feels a player would benefit from some additional time in our recreational program to develop their skills, and you will be referred to the recreational program.

4. My child has a late birthday in the calendar year.  Can they play below their age group?

Competitive teams are governed by US Youth Soccer.  Their rule is that soccer age groups are determined by birth years.  We have no flexibility in letting a competitive player join a team in a younger birth year.  However, when a coach feels it is a good fit, a player can play up an age division, if they are ready.

5. What is the commitment difference between HRSL and LFC United?

HRSL is a ½ soccer year commitment at a time (spring, fall) and teams are coached by volunteers.  Practices are held once a week and all games are played against other HRSL teams.

LFC United is a full-year commitment including a spring and fall season and teams are trained by licensed coaches.  Families can expect 2-4 soccer activities a week.  Teams participate in league play against other clubs.  At the youngest age groups and average level skill team, these other clubs are from the Central Ohio area.  As a team grows in skill level and age, league participation can include competition from around the state or even other regions in the country.  LFC Competitive teams also participate in approx. 4 tournaments per year.

6. What is the cost involved with the competitive program?

Please click here to view the fee table for LFC teams which includes a payment plan option.

7. Can my child play for both a recreational team and a competitive team?

No, if a player accepts an offer to play on a LFC team, they cannot participate in the recreational program at the same time.

8. Does everyone get equal play time on a LFC team?

Playtime during LFC games is not guaranteed to be equal.  Players are expected to earn their playtime based on their performance and attitude at training sessions.
